Personal letters, also known as friendly letters, and social notes normally have five parts.

1. The Heading. This is where you write the date. It can also include the return address.

Skip a line after the heading.

2. The Greeting. The greeting always ends with a comma.
Dear Uncle David,
3. The body. Also known as the main text. This includes the message you want to write.
Normally in a friendly letter, the beginning of paragraphs is indented.
If it is not indented, be sure to skip a space between paragraphs.
Skip a line after the greeting. AND Skip a line before the close.

4. The complimentary close. This short expression is always a few words on a single line. It ends in a comma.  Skip one to three spaces (two is usual) for the signature line.

5. The signature line. Type or print your name.

Postscript. Although there is no postscript in our example above, it is quite common.
If your letter contains a postscript, begin it with P.S.
Skip a line after the signature line to begin the postscript.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember to combine your brainstorming notes (BNotes) and KWO -- just like we did in class. It looked something like this:

Letter to GRANDMOM

Aug. - Nov. trip 6000 miles

Desmond  Astros

Homeschool updates

Speech & Debate     P & C     Duo

Dogsittting adventures w/ Simba

Stuffy       sick       better

Nativity    Ninja     Night

Neighborhood       Decorations      &Contest

Max       Birthday        Bucca

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember that JV should write 2 paragraphs. Varsity should write 3 paragraphs.
Your combined BNotes and KWO should help you create those paragraphs.

Obviously we need to pick and choose for our paragraphs.  We can eliminate certain writing points or we can combine some.  We can also add details.
Your combined BNotes and KWO might now look something like this:

                                                        Letter to GRANDMOM

P1)
Aug. - Nov. trip 6000 miles
TX, Mississippi, TN, NC, NCFCA intensive, VA, PA, VT, B&B, IN,

Due December 14 (Proverbs or Psalms Quote & Vocabulary)

1) Vocabulary words should be:
    a) alphabetized
    b) defined
    c) labeled with part of speech and
    d) used correctly in a sentence

There are 15 words, we reviewed them in class, and they are all from our book, "The Incredible Journey."
Our Vocabulary Test will be on December 21. If you are absent from class, you may take the test in January. The make-up test will be January 11, 2017 from 3:15 to 4:00 (after our regular class time).
THE VOCABULARY WORDS ARE LISTED ON THE RIGHT SIDEBAR.

2) The essay assignment was described in class. Parents, please text me if you have any questions.

Choose a quote from Proverbs or Psalms in the Bible. If you need suggestions, here are some examples:  PROVERBS   PSALMS
You are not limited to these examples. You may choose anything from Proverbs or Psalms.

Find something you like. If you do not understand it or its context, ask your parents for help. Pray over it, use your imagination, and let that quote inspire a story.

If you prefer research over creative writing, you may use a factual style approach and do an exegesis essay.

The process of exegesis involves 1) observation: what does the passage say?
2) interpretation: what does the passage mean? 3) correlation: how does the passage relate to the rest of the Bible? and 4) application: how should this passage affect my life?

IEW STEPS TO A GREAT ESSAY
1) WRITE YOUR KWO first.
2) Talk through your KWO and then . . . .
3) Write your first Rough Draft.
4) Continue to perfect your essay, until you have a Final Draft with which you are satisfied.
5) PROOF  . . .   PROOF   . . .  PROOF it.  :-)

These are the required Dress Ups and Openers for each paragraph. Writing one paragraph is absolutely fine. You can tell a GREAT story in one paragraph. You could write an excellent research essay in one paragraph. IF you write more than one paragraph, you must include (and indicate) all required Dress Ups and Openers in EACH paragraph.

No banned words!  They are listed on the right sidebar  ------>
No contractions!     Apostrophes are AOK when used to make a word possessive.

If your essay does not contain the actual quote, please note it on the checklist or in some other prominent place. I want to know your "starting off point." I want to know what your inspiration was for your essay.  !Muy importante!

Thank you, Joshua and Max for helping classmates with staples this week! You guys get our "Knights in Shining Armor Award."

Quotes from the Book of Psalms

(Psalm 119:105)  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

(Psalm  139:13) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
This is quote from a pslam that describes how God has always known us, planned for us, and loved us. The speaker is David.

(Psalm 103:1)  Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

(Psalm 127:3) Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.

(Psalm 23:1) The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not not want.

(Psalm 27:1) The LORD is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?
This is quote that describes how we have nothing to fear because God is our Lord.

(Psalm 24:1) The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

(Psalm 51:12)  Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

(Psalm 23: 4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.

(Psalm 27:14) Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

(Psalm 55:22a) Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you.

(Psalm 18: 2) God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.

(Psalm 34:18)  The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

(Pslam 107: 1)  Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

(Psalm 33:6) By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.

(Psalm 150:6) Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.

(Psalm 34:4) I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

(Psalm 118:22) The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

This might be a good quote to use if you are planning a more exegetical type of essay (rather than a creative essay).
You could explore how this is a foreshadowing of Christ. The "cornerstone" is also mentioned in Isaiah 28:16, which is a book filled with prophecy.  http://www.usccb.org/bible/is/28:16#29028016

If you decide to do this kind of research essay, be sure to show the continuity through the New Testament. Remember that the Old Testament is a revelation of the New Testament and the New Testament is a fulfilling of the Old Testament   http://www.uscatholic.org/articles/201402/what-relationship-between-old-and-new-testaments-28454

Here are some NT verses that are connected to Pslam 118:22 . . . .
