Your summary must have three paragraphs:
Introduction: 4 things needed
a great first sentence that makes us want to keep reading
the title, author, illustrator (if applicable), and date of publication
describe the main characters 
describe where the story happens  (setting)

Middle: the 2 things needed 
describe the main idea of the book  (at least 2 - 5 sentences)
tell us the major “problem” the story  (at least 2 to 5 sentences)

Conclusion: the 3 things needed
describe how the problem is solved
tell us the lesson learned or moral of the story
end with a clincher (last sentence) that connects to the topic sentence  


Make sure your summary:

sticks to the most important facts and is in sensible order
answers the 5 W’s & H  ----> who? what? why? where? when? and how?
